One Paragraph Review: Sunshine

What the FUCK was that? Why in the name of the Lord would you take a great cast, great directing, a neat story and make exactly one-half of a compelling, interesting, beautiful film and then just flush the whole fucking thing down the toilet by turning it into a continuity-free slasher-flick tribute? Why would somebody do that? Sunshine was heading in the direction of Alien and ended up somewhere around the bastard child of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Event Horizon. What kind of spite exists in somebody's heart to build one half of something beautiful just to use the second half to meaninglessly destroy it? Is this some kind of esoteric "destruction-as-an-act-of-creation" thing, where you blur the border between flowers and shit by making 180-degree turns just because you can? Like, maybe its actually harder to deliberately fuck up a movie - especially one that is this promising and awesome - than it is to "just" deliver a great second half? I mean sure, one can probably can predict where this movie ends, but fucking a - it matters how you get there.
